Nicola’s warm, magnetic songwriting “swells and tugs at the heartstrings, stirring more than a tear or two“. Rooted in family and storytelling, Nicola Mitchell (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Maniapoto) blends folky bluegrass with a touch of te reo Māori.
2025 Country Music Honour winner, Nicola is one half of the Tūī and APRA Best Country Song-nominated duo The Mitchell Twins and regularly tours Aotearoa and Australia alongside her award-winning sister, Jenny Mitchell.
This Valentine’s Day, Nicola brings a special show to Hilltop for “the smitten, the slightly bitter, and the happyily single”. She’s joined by Wellington favourites Michael Muggeridge (Butter Wouldn’t Melt and T-Bone) on mandolin, and Jo Moir (Hobnail) on the violin. An acoustic set designed to move through the many different stories of Valentines Day.
Inspired by artists like Tami Neilson, Marlon Williams, and the Topp Twins, Nicola has shared stages with John Craigie (US), The Warratahs, and Kasey Chambers, following a standout set at the Wellington Folk Festival in 2024.
Come along to catch a show drowning in harmonies with the full spectrum of love this Valentine’s Day. 💘

MATT JOE GOW
Gate opens 7pm
Music Starts 7.30pm
Saturday 28 February 2026
Matt is coming back in 2026!
From large festivals to boutique gatherings, from supporting Chris Isaak to Justin Townes Earle, Matt Joe Gow has built a reputation as an earnest performer to go alongside the authentic alt-country tones. Receiving his second consecutive Music Victoria Award for his album Between Tonight & Tomorrow—which charted on both the ARIA and Australian Independent charts—the 2023 New Zealand Country Music Award winner and critically acclaimed kiwi troubadour captures barroom Americana with a confiding closeness.
Having recently stepped back from the stage to focus on writing his new album and producing other artists, Matt’s upcoming Summer 2026 shows mark a unique and special opportunity to reconnect and see him perform live once again.“Joe Gow’s world-class songs show once again he is essential listening.”
—Rhythms Magazine
“Recording my next album I decided to do things a little differently. Rather than record the whole album at once, instead, I wrote the first half (which we’ve finished recording), we’ll mix those songs during the year, and then I’ll start writing the second half of the album. I’d been writing songs whilst living in different cities around the world, places I’d never been, and found the experience rejuvenating, not only in terms of creation but for the soul.”
